WHO WE ARE
The African Racing Lab aim to improve the representation of Black people in motorsport.
Lewis Hamilton started his racing career in Formula One 14 years ago, and was the first driver of colour in the sport. Today, he remains the only Black driver. More importantly, we recognise the lack of diversity in motorsport, from its drivers to those in the garage and the engineers in the factories.
The issues facing black communities are complex. The solutions to these problems will come from our imagination, our innovation and our experimentation. We deserve a world that represents us, opportunities that improve our lives, and policies that reflect our lives.
The African Racing Lab is a type of three-way change project: our mission to engage the black community throughout the year; our commitment to use our network force to stimulate Black recruitment in motorsport; and our plan to combine technology and traditional organizational methods to reach black people everywhere and everywhere we are.
African Racing Lab works with Blacks to transform our communities, strengthening the education of Blacks and changing the way recruitment works - locally, nationally and internationally.
To improve our communities, we need to identify the key barriers to recruitment and progression of Black people in motorsport.
To get there, we work to understand the dynamics that impact our communities; to identify the key barriers to recruitment and progression of Black people in motorsport; we provide actionable recommendations to overcome them, we strengthen the capacity of our communities to find jobs in motorsport; and we engage and include black people in actions that impact our lives.
Improving diversity and inclusion across all engineering and technology sectors is a key priority.
